PUPIL PREMIUM STATEMENT

The Pupil Premium Grant is additional funding given to schools and academies to:

  • raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.
  • support children and young people with parents in the regular armed forces.

It was first introduced in April 2011.  Since then the amount schools and academies receive has increased.  Schools and academies will receive funding based on the number of pupils who have been eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years (Ever6).

 

FUNDING ALLOCATION FOR 2015 – 2016

  • £1,320 for each eligible primary aged pupil.
  • £1,900 for each Looked After Child.
  • £300 for each Service Child.

The Department for Education has clear expectations how the Pupil Premium Grant may be spent:

  • for the purposes of the school, ie, for the educational benefit of pupils registered at that school;
  • for the benefit of pupils registered at other maintained schools or academies;
  • on community facilities, eg, services whose provision furthers any charitable purpose for the benefit of pupils at the school or their families, or people who live or work in the locality in which the school is situated.

 

GENERAL CONTEXT

The Pupil Premium is a per-pupil payment, additional to main school funding, which is intended to address underlying socioeconomic inequalities between pupils.

Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit. However they will be held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support pupils from low-income families.

New measures will be included in performance tables that will capture the achievement of pupils covered by the Pupil Premium.

From September 2012, schools are also required to publish online information about how they have used the Premium. This will ensure that parents and others are made fully aware of the attainment of pupils covered by the Premium.

 

Our key aims are to demonstrate that Pupil Premium students have:

  • Have attained as well as made progress in English and Maths
  • Increased their functional understanding in literacy as well as in numeracy
  • Produced overall outcomes in line with the rest of their year cohort to examine if we are to evaluate our ‘spending for learning’ policy wisely

 

‘Ofsted’ will examine:

  • Students who make progress relative to their starting points
  • The progress that has been made since joining the Academy
  • Progress of SEN students within and outside of the Pupil Premium category
  • How well students are prepared for their next stage of education (entry requirements etc)
  • How well gaps between different pupil categories are being narrowed
